Gangtok is a capital city of Sikkim state. It is a hill station located in the eastern Himalayan range at an altitude of 1650 m (5414 ft). Different ethnic groups such as Nepali, Lepchas, Bhutia live in the town. Gangtok is a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site due to the Enchey Monastery. It is a centre of Tibetan Buddhist culture and learning. The Nathula Pass, located about 50 km from Gangtok, used to be the primary route of wool, fur and spice trade with Tibet.
