Secret Beaches of Goa

The smallest state in India – Goa has over 101 kilometers (63 miles) of beaches. It is a popular beach destination among locals and foreign tourists attracting thousands of holiday makers every year. If you come to Goa looking for sun, sand and sea but want to escape the crowds of Calangute, Anjuna, Palolem, Candolim, Vagator and other popular beaches, Goa has some tucked away secret beaches to offer for you. Pick up snacks and water with you as there are no eateries around and enjoy the peace and quiet when you get there.

Butterfly Beach is located on a small island of the same name Butterfly Island in South Goa and could only be reached by boat from Agonda or Palolem beach. It is a great place if you are looking for total privacy. The Butterfly beach is in form of a small isolated cove surrounded by a lot of rocks. The Beach is well known as a favorite place for dolphins playing and amazing sunsets.


Kakolem Beach also known as Tiger Beach is located in South Goa. The breathtaking beauty of isolated bay, pure and soft sands make up for almost getting lost on the way there. There are no houses nearby, snack huts or accommodation. The Beach is located 7 km to south from Cabo de Rama resort. This is one of the most isolated and truly wild beaches in whole Goa. People who come there are the ones with the spirit of adventure and lovers of beautiful places.


Galgibaga Beach can be described as the heaven of peacefulness. It is beautiful, natural and silent beach. Because of this peacefulness, the endangered Olive Ridley turtles have chosen this place for their nesting. There is not much commercial entertainment for tourist except for a handful of shacks that sell cheap, delicious seafood. Galjibag beach is located in South Goa, 18 kilometers from Canacona, south of Talpona river estuary.

Hollant Beach is a serene beach with a lovely bay and a long stretch of shallow water running into the sea that is perfect for non-swimmers and waders. The beach is rocky but the picturesque bay makes up for it. Fishermen’s boats line the narrow, curving shore creating a quaint picture. It is known to be the only beach in Goa where one can see a sunrise. beach is located to the south of Bogmalo beach at a distance of 7 kilometers from Vasco city. One can only travel here with their own vehicle.

Betul Beach is located at the southern end of the Sal River which flows through the south of Goa. It has a hillock on one side, laced with coconut tree plantation on the other and you will be able to see where the Sal River drains out into the vast Arabian Sea. Betul Beach remains hidden from outside, making it incredibly pretty and secluded. The beach can be found about 18 kilometers from Margao. To get there one can take the Cavelossim-Assolna ferry across the River Sal to the beach.

Velsao Beach is located just north of the popular Majorda and Colva beaches in the southern part of Goa is this stunning beach with soft, silvery sand and nothing but a lifeguard and some birds to keep you company. You’ll spot a few swimmers here, but like you, they are here to escape the crowds of more popular beaches nearby.

Siridao Beach is located about 12 kilometers south of Panjim near the Zuari river estuary. Scattered blocks of rock in between smooth strips of sand give the beachscape an unusually rugged appearance. The fragments of oyster shells wash up on the shore and brighten up the beach.
