Namchi is a small panoramic town situated at an altitude of 1,675 m (5500 ft). Namchi, literally translating as top of the sky offers an unmatched view of the Khangchendzonga range and the Rangit valley. The Namchi monastery, Ralong monastery and Tendong Hill are important Buddhist pilgrimage centres. The world's largest statue 38 m (123 ft) of the Buddhist Padmasambhava, the patron saint of Sikkim, is on the Samdruptse hill opposite Namchi.
