Tezpur is an ancient city situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra. The town is known for beautiful parks, attractive lakes and enchanting views of the Brahmaputra River. Tezpur is considered to be Cultural Capital of Assam. Several famous dance forms originated in the region: Bihu dance, Jhumur dance, Bugurumba and Sattriya. Historical ruins dot the surrounding areas of the city bearing resemblance to the Gupta period art.
