Ajanta is a small village and a site of the Ajanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It preserves the mythological and religious heritage of India. Thirty rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments are present here which date back to the 2nd to 7th century. The caves include paintings and sculptures that are masterpieces of Buddhist religious art and depiction of Jataka tales. Ajanta caves are close Ellora caves. Ajanta could be a one-day trip from Araungabad.
