Balasore is a city situated on the coast of Bay of Bengal. It is known for long, shallow and picturesque beaches. Balasore's culture is a mix of Oriya, Bengali and Marwari cultures. The city was French and Dutch colony for many years. Colonial-era heritage ruins are scattered across the city. One of the major handicrafts of Belasore are lacquered toys, brass works of Remuna and  stone carvings of Nilagiri.
