Bhitarkanika National Park is situated over an area of 672 sq.km (260 sq.mi). It encompasses Bhitarkanika Mangroves and a mangrove swamp. The park is home to endangered saltwater crocodiles, white crocodiles, Indian pythons, wild pigs, rhesus monkeys, cobras, chitals, kingfishers, olive ridley turtles, etc. There are more than 200 species of avifauna in the park and around eighty thousand migratory birds nest here during the monsoon season.
Bhitarkanika National Park is the second largest compact mangrove ecosystem in India.
