Gaya is a major pilgrimage place for Hindus and Buddhists. Gaya is known for the 17th century Vishnupad Temple constructed by princess Ahalyabayi. The temple enshrines a footprint of Vishnu. Gaya is a ritual place and is famous for Pindadaan (funeral offerings for the peace of souls of one's parents and ancestors). Around 10 km (6 mi) away is Bodhigaya, one of the holiest places in the world, where Prince Siddhartha Gautama had attained Enlightenment.
