Rajgir is a small, ancient city and an important pilgrimage place for Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. Rajgir was the first capital of the kingdom of Magadha. The first Buddhist council was convened at Vulture‘s Peak mountain. In addition to its historical and religious importance, it is also home to a popular health resort. The resort is situated in a green valley, surrounded by rocky hills and is famous for its hot water springs.
Major tourist sites: Shanti Stupa, Venu Vana (Bamboo grove), Japanese Temple, Tapodharma/Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, Saptaparni Caves, Chariot Route Marks, Gridhakuta or Vulture‘s Peak, Rajgir Heritage Museum, etc. Rajgir is close to Nalanda, Pawapuri and Patna.
