The Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is located in the foothills of the Vindhyan Mountains. It consists of five clusters of natural rock shelters, displaying paintings that appear to date from the Mesolithic Period, as early as about 15,000 years ago.The Rocks exhibit the earliest traces of human life on the Indian subcontinent and also deliver early evidence of dance. Bhimbetka Rock Shelters are located 45 kilometres (27 mi) south of Bhopal and thus can be considered as a one day-trip.
