Sarnath is a small historical village and an important Budhist pilgrimage centre. It is famous as the site of the deer park where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma and gave his first sermon after his enlightenment. Thailand, Japan, Tibet, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, have established temples and monasteries in Sarnath in a style that is typical for the respective country. The city is in close proximities to Varanasi.
