Chamba is an ancient town located at an altitude of 996m (3268 ft) on the banks of the Ravi River at its junction with Sal River. Chamba is known for arts and crafts, the miniature Pahari paintings, the Sushi Mata Mela (gathering or fair) and the Minjar Mela Yatras (pilgrimage) which involve music and dances.
There are various temples and palaces in and around the town: Laxmi Narayan, Champavati, Chamunda Devi temples, Akhand Chandi Palace, etc.

When to visit: best time to visit April to June and October to November. June to September is monsoon season. December to February is winter season.

Nearest railway station: Dalhousie is not directly connected by railway. Pathankot train station is about 118 km away. Regular trains to Pathankot from New Delhi.

Nearest airport: Kangra Airport at Gagal is about 144 km away. Domestic flights connect Gaggal with Delhi.

Buses: Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses as well as private operators connect Chamba to the major parts of Himachal Pradesh.

By road: The distance from Pathankot to Chamba is about 122 km via Chamba - Pathankot Rd. It takes around 3-4 hours.
The distance fro Kangra Airport at Gagal is about 144.3 km)via NH154 and Chamba - Pathankot Rd. It takes around 4 hours.
The distance from Chamba to Dalhousie is about 53 km via Chamba - Pathankot Rd. It takes around 2 hours.
The distance from Chamba to Dharamsala is about 155 km via NH154 and Chamba - Pathankot Rd. It takes around 4-5 hours.
