Kullu is a town located at an altitude of 1220m (4000 ft) on the banks of the Beas River in the Kullu Valley. The town is famous for colourful Kullu shawls and caps made of pashmina, sheep-wool and angora. Kullu valley is also known as the Valley of Gods, it is surrounded by pine, deodar forests and apple orchards.
Major tourist sites in and around Kullu: Raghunath Temple, Bijli Mahadev Temple, Manali, Makaran cities etc.

When to visit: best time to visit April to June and October to November. June to September is monsoon season. December to February is winter season.

HOW TO REACH

Nearest railway station:  Kullu is not directly connected by railway.  Joginder Nagar  train station is about 120km away. Kalka train station is about 242 km from Kullu. It is connected to Chandigarh and Delhi by regular trains.

Nearest airport: Bhuntar ( Kullu ) Airport  is about 10km from Kullu. Connectivity is limited. Domestic flights connect Bhuntar with Delhi and Chandigarh.

Buses: Himachal Road Transport Corporation buses as well as private operators connect Kullu to the major cities in North India.

By road: The distance from Chandigarh to Kullu is about 267 km via NH205 and NH154. It takes around 7 hours.
The distance from Kalka to Kullu is about 242 km via NH154. It takes around 7 hours.
The distance from Manali to Kullu is about 44 km via Kullu - Naggar - Manali Rd. It takes around 1-2 hours.
The distance from Leh to Kullu is about 516 km via Leh Manali Hwy. It takes around 14-15 hours.
The distance from Shimla to Kullu is aboout 208 km via NH205, NH154 and NH3. It takes around 6 hours.
