Kargil, the second largest town in Ladakh, is an important transit hub. It is a quiet town known for its rich apricot orchards. Shia Muslims form majority of the town’s population. The architecture here combines Tibetan, Iranian and Arabic styles. There are many trekking and mountaineering sites in Nun Kun Massif, and river rafting possibilities in the region of Zanskar.
