Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (IATA: CCU) in Kolkata is the largest airport in Eastern India and the only international airport operating in West Bengal. The airport is a major hub for flights to North-east India, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
The airport is located approximately 17 km (11 mi) from the city center. It takes one to one and a half hours to reach the airport depending on the traffic situation.
The new terminal was opened in 2013 and integrates both domestic and international terminals. The new terminal is an L-Shaped building and has separate levels for departures and arrivals.
Lounge facilities are available in Domestic and International wings. The Clipper Lounge is located in the Domestic Security Hold Area and the Port Lounge in International Security Hold Area. Duty-free shops, ATM’s are available at Departure and Arrival level of Terminal2. Snack bars, coffee shops, meals on the go as well as child care rooms are available at various locations through the airport. Free Wi-Fi is available for 30 minutes in the airport. Users need to provide mobile number as the password is sent by text message.
Kolkata airport is connected to the Kolkata Suburban Railway system. The overground track connects the airport's Biman Bandar Station to the centre via Dum Dum Junction and Majerhat Station. The trains run from 06:30am until 18:30 pm. It takes around 15 to 30 minutes to reach the central stations.
West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation (WBSTC) operates Air Conditioned Volvo and Marcopolo bus service between Airport and various locations in Kolkata. Pre-pad taxi counters are available in Arrival Level between Gates 3 and 4. Service is available on 24x7 basis (24 hours day, 7 days week).
