Coimbatore, also known as Kavai, is an ancient city located on the banks of the Noyyal River, surrounded by the Western Ghats included in UNESCO World Heritage list. It is a commercial textile centre also known for motor sports and Kari Motor Speedway. Coimbatore hosts many festivals including Mariamman festival which is a major event in the summer. There are numerous temples in and around the city including Asia's biggest statue of Lord Ganesha in Puliakulam.
