Formerly known as Cape Comorin, Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of the Indian mainland and the meeting point of three waters: the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. It is known for its beautiful views of sunrise, sunset and moonrise. During Chitra Pournami, the sun and the moon can be seen facing each other on the same horizon. Kanyakumari is an important pilgrim centre and is well known for its various tourism, historical and religious sites.
