Theni is a town and the headquarters of the district. It is known for the large-scale trading of cotton, cardamom, mango, grapes and chilli. It hosts one of the largest weekly markets and is often referred to as Cardamom City. Theni serves as a base for visiting historical, cultural landmarks and religious sites in the district.
