Varkala is a coastal town near the Arabian Sea. It is a popular pilgrimage and beach destination. Varkala is known for Papanasam beach which is considered to have holy waters to wash away all sins. It is also known for ayurvedic treatments, the two millennium old Vishnu Shrine of Janardhanaswamy and social reformer’s Sree Narayan Guru Activities.
