Bhubaneswar is the capital city of Odisha and an important Hindu pilgrimage centre. The city has two faces - the old one with history of over two thousand years and a new one - as the city was planned in 1948 to house the capital of the state. Bhubaneswar is also known as the Temple City of India and houses a lot of fine examples of Kalinga architecture. Bhubaneswar is known for handicrafts, silver filigree work, appliqué work, patta painting, sand artistry, sculpturing, Odissi dance and music.
