Yuksom is a small historical town situated at the altitude of 1,780 m (5,840 ft). Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim, established in 1642 AD. Rich in history and unspoiled natural beauty the town has special religious and cultural significance. It has a number of famous Buddhist monasteries and historical monuments. Yuksom serves as the base camp for trekking to Mountain Khangchendzonga. The trek from Yuksom to Dzongri Peak is the most popular trek in Sikkim.
