Ajmer is an ancient city and a popular pilgrimage destination for both Hindus and Muslims. It is a centre of culture and education. Ajmer is a green oasis surrounded by the Aravalli Mountains. To the north of the city there is a large artificial lake, Anasagar. Ajmer serves as a base for visiting Pushkar.
