Jaisalmer is a town located in the heart of the Thar Desert. It is known as the Golden City and is a popular hub for camel safaris. The town is famous for Sonar Qila (Jaisalmer Fort), a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Sonar Qila is a living fort with a royal palace, Jain temples, shops, hotels, havelis (homes) and numerous lookouts to the city and desert. The town is also known for annual Desert Festival held over three days in January/February.
