Agra is the city of Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Agra is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna. It was the capital of the Mughal Empire between 1526 and 1658. It has three UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Taj Mahal (a marble Tomb known as the monument of Love), the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. Along with Delhi and Jaipur, Agra is included on the Golden Triangle tourist circuit.
Agra is also famous for its sweets – Petha and Gazak- and the salty snack – Dalmoth. Marble, hand-made leather, jewelry, sandalwood items are popular buy in Agra.

When to visit: best time to visit October to March. March to May are hot and humid. June to September is monsoon season. Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.

HOW TO REACH

Nearest railway station: Agra Cantt (Station Code : AGC) is the main railway station. Agra is on the main train line on the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Chennai routes and is well connected to most cities across India.

Nearest airport: Agra's Kheria Airport (IATA: AGR) is also a military base. Connectivity is limited. Currently operates to Delhi only. Kheria airport is 13 kilometres away from Agra city.

Buses: Agra is well connected by bus to cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior, Lucknow and Kanpur. There are two main interstate bus stands: Idgah Bus Stand, the primary bus stand for traveling towards Rajasthan/Madhya Pradesh and ISBT - an inter state bus terminal.

By road: The distance from Agra to Delhi is about 230 km via Taj Express Highway/Yamuna Expy. It takes around 4 hours.
The distance from Agra to Jaipur is about 238 km via Bikaner - Agra Rd. It takes around 4-5 hours.
The distance from Agra to Gwalior is about 120 km via NE 2. It takes around 2-3 hours.
The distance from Agra to Lucknow is about 336 km via Agra - Lucknow Expy. It takes around 4 hours.
