Mathura is one of the holy cities in Hinduism, located on the bank of the river Yamuna. It is known as the birth place of Lord Krishna. It is an important pilgrimage centre with an ancient history. The city was the capital of the Surasena Kingdom and is mentioned in the oldest Indian epic, the Ramayana.
