Allahabad is a city situated at the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. Also known as Prayag, it is one of the oldest cities in India mentioned in the Ramayan and Mahabharat Vedas. It is an important pilgrimage centre hosting the Maha Kumbh Mela, the largest religious gathering in the world happening every twelve years and the Ardh Kumbh Mela every six years. Allahabad has many buildings featuring Indo-Islamic and Indo-Saracenic architecture. The city is noted for historic, cultural and religious tourism.
