Tura is located in West Garo Hills district and is home to Garo tribes that are a matrilineal society. Other ethnic minorities such as Bengalis, Nepalis, Hajongs, Koches, Assamesses and others are also present. The main religion is Christianity. Tura is known for many waterfalls and streams such as Rongbangdare, Pelgadare, Gandrak Falls, Rangolwari, Nokmawari, Ganol, Datchima streams. Meghalaya is also known for Wangala or 100 drums festival held in Asanang, approximately 30 km (18 mi) distance from Tura.
