Majuli is alarge river island formed by the Brahmaputra river. The island is the abode of the Assamese Vaisnavite culture initiated around 15th century. Many satras or monasteries still survive and represent the colourful Assamese culture. Majuli island is accessible by ferries from the City of Jorhat.
