Pattadakal is an ancient capital of the Chalukaya dynasty. Settled on the banks of Malaprabha River, it is a historical and archaeological site. The group of the 8th century monuments in Pattadakal is included in UNESCO World Heritage list. Chalukaya monuments include nine Hindu temples, and a Jain sanctuary. It is also known for its inscriptions. The greatest of it is Virupaksha temple. Pattadakal could be a one day trip from Badami.
