Aihole is a quiet village and a historical site, situated along the Malaprabha River. Aihole was established in 450 C.E. as the first capital of Chalukya kings. It is known for Chalukyan architecture, with about 125 stone temples and shrines built between the 4th and 6th centuries AD. The Hindu, Jain and Buddhist temples, shrines, intricate stone carvings,and the remains have the potential to be included as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Aihole could be visited together with Pattadakal as a one-day trip from Badami.
Major temples: Durga Temple, Meguti Temple, Gandar, Ladkhan, Kontigudi and Hucchapaya groups, etc.
