Shravanabelagola

Shravanabelagola is a small town and an important pilgrimage destination for the Jains. It is famous for its 17 meters (55 ft) high Gomateshwar or Lord Bahubali statue. The chief festival of Shravanabelagola is called Maha Masthaka Abhisheka (Head Anointing Ceremony) performed once in every twelve years. There are ancient monuments in and around Shravanabelagola. More than 800 inscriptions have been found, dating to various times from 600 to 1830 A.D.
